dates back over 1500 years. the main deity in the temple is
Mahanandiswara swamy. the temple is part of the nine shrines known as
nava nadulu. Within 15km of the mahanandhi, there are 8 other nandi
shrines all called as nava nandhulu.
These nine temples
are Mahanandi, Shivanandi, Vinayakanandi, Somanandi, Prathamanandi,
Garudanandi, Suryanandi, Krishnanandi (also called Vishnunandi) and
Naganandi.
Mahanandhi is famous for the fresh water
pools, which are so fresh that if you drop a coin we can view the coin
in water. Water comes from the main shrine inside the temple. One
important thing is that the normal people are allowed to touch the
shrine and perform pujas over here. The water during the winter season
will be very hot and vice versa during the summer. During the early
mornings, the water is lukewarm and water gets cooled gradually with
the rise in temperature.
